Rocks 6 - Cougars 1
1st Period
Rocks took on a Northwest Conference opponent looking to test themselves against a strong veteran team from Southview. Just 51 seconds in, the Rocks found themselves on the power play, just 27 seconds later Anthony Rogers feeds Chris Ridgway in front and Ridgway buries the puck on Cougar net minder, Erik Fisher, 1-0 Rocks. As expected from the North teams, the game turns physical and the Rocks get another opportunity on the power play. One minute later the Cougars go down another man, however the Rocks are unable to convert the 5 on 3. Cougars continue to march to the box and with 2:10 left in the 1st the Rocks capitalize again. Defenseman, Matt Zacharias, controls the puck on the power play and finds Jordan Edmonds wide open, Edmonds drills a hard shot that beats Fisher clean, 2-0 Rocks. Rocks, look like they are on the board again when Anthony Rogers scores, however the goal is called back for a high stick. Coffman out shot Sylvania 14-5.2nd Period
Cougars, start the period a man down, only this time they bring more energy and are pressing the Rocks early. Steve Dibble of the Cougars, takes off one on one with Rocks net minder Alex Rogers, Rogers stuffs him cold leaving another Cougar forward shaking his head. Rogers gets peppered for the next several minutes but the Sophomore tender denies all on comers. Not to be outshone, Anthony Rogers, gives his team a lift with an unassisted marker at 8:59 of the 2nd, 3-0 Rocks. The intensity continues, the pressure too much, has the Rocks back on the power play. Andy O'Brien feeds the puck in behind the net where Jordan Edmonds has parked, Edmonds spots Jeff Hoover sliding into an opening and lays a perfect pass, Hoover wires a slap shot from the top of the right circle, beyond the outstretched glove of Fisher, top shelf, 4-0 Rocks. With 3 minutes left the game gets rough and a melee of players in front of the Rocks net minder Rogers attracts attention, defenseman Jared Nagel and Matt Zacharias come to Rogers aide and bodies fly everywhere. The result has 4 players march to the box and the Rocks find themselves down 5 on 3. Alex Rogers is ready to perform again and makes several brilliant saves in tight, keeping the Rocks up 4-0 after two periods. Sylvania out shot Coffman 14-9 in the period.3rd Period
The Cougars start the 3rd shorthanded, the Rocks send out the power play unit again, Rocks defenseman, Jimmy Wall, corrals the puck and blasts a shot thru traffic, putting the Rocks up 5-0. For most of the third the game is physical with both sides sending players to the box, while both teams trade shots the edge in play favors the Rocks. Alex Rogers makes several glove saves but with time running down to 2:29, Sylvania finally breaks the goose egg, when Erik Burtch strips a puck from a Rocks player in the zone and feeds Nick Block, Blocks quick shot beats Rogers, 5-1 Rocks. Rocks continue some late pressure and two first year players hook up one more time, Gregory Strine passes across to a wide open Tyler Anderson and Anderson drills a shot scoring his 1st of the season with 55 seconds on the clock, Rocks 6-1. Coffman out shot the Cougars 12-8 in the period and 35-27 overall.Rocks Highlights:
