1st Period
Round 3 of the Allgeyer had a rematch of the 2006 final participants, Maumee Panthers. A year ago the Rocks had completely dismantled the Panthers in a 6-0 championship victory. The 2007 game would have a game on the line to see who would get to this years championship. A much improved Maumee came out determined to be more than the previous year. Rocks hit pay dirt first, Chris Ridgway feeds Matt Zacharias at the point, Zacharias drills a hard slapshot that Panther goaltender, Tubbs, just gets a piece of, the rebound lands right on Anthony Rogers blade and he puts the biscuit in the open side, 1-0 Rocks. The Panthers start coming on as the two King brothers and Captain Young start pressuring the Rocks, with 4:41 left in the first Kolbow, blasts a puck from the point that Rogers doesn't see through all the traffic in front, 1-1. 21 seconds later the Panthers strike again on a Rocks giveaway along the boards, Glenn, sends a backhand towards the Rocks net and somehow the puck sneaks by Rogers, 2-1 Panthers. Rocks were out shot the Panthers in the first period 11-8.2nd Period
The middle frame turns into a offensive show as neither team looks to stop the puck from reach the webbing. The wide open affair creates a goal explosion, a 2nd giveaway in the Rocks zone, allows a steal at the blue line and the Panthers bury the breakaway, 3-1 Panthers. The next 4 minutes is all Rocks, O'Brien hits Edmonds near the hash marks on the left boards, Edmonds walks in alone on Tubbs and roofs the puck short side, 3-2 Panthers. 1 minute later tic-tac-toe, Sam O'Brien and Ridgway hook up with Rogers and Rogers buries his 2nd, 3-3. 1 minute later Rogers and Ridgway are at it again only this time Rogers beats, Tubbs of the face-off, the puck slips to the backdoor and Ridgway directs the puck, giving the Rocks the lead, 4-3. 23 seconds later the Panthers strike as Young picks off a bad pass and blasts a shot past Rogers, 4-4. Maumee goes on the power play and they make short work as 15 seconds into the PP, K. King wires a shot past Rogers, 5-4 Panthers. 45 seconds later the Panthers are on a role and Stanford takes a great feed from Young and the Rocks are stunned, 6-4 Panthers. Not quite ready to fold the tent Anthony Rogers gets a nice touch pass from Sam O'Brien and with 1:06 left the Rocks are back in the game, 6-5 Panthers. Rocks out shot the Panthers 15-8.3rd Period
The 3rd would prove to be wild and weird, Coffman needed to come back to have any chance of reaching the championship game, but yet another errant pass into the center of the Rocks zone, leaves Young alone and he absolutely unleashes a slap shot from 10 feet, Rogers has no chance, 7-5 Panthers. The Rocks looked in trouble, Coach Pooley calls a timeout and whatever was said, has the Rocks come out flying they are now pressuring the Panthers all over the ice. A weak penalty call puts the Rocks down a man but Ryan Cohagen with 7:06 left sends a seeing eye pass thru everyone from his own zone to a streaking Anthony Rogers and Rogers deke's Tubbs, for his 4th of the game, shorthanded, to get the Rocks within one, 7-6 Panthers. 48 seconds later Matt Zacharias walks the puck across the top of the blue line and wires another slap shot on Tubbs, the shot is too much to handle and a rebound sets right on to Chris Ridgway's stick, 7-7 with 6 minutes too play. Tubbs is amazing for the next few minutes he makes 3 point blank saves to keep the game knotted up, but with time running out Matt Smith plays the puck off the boards to Cohagen, Cohagen threads a puck to Andy O'Brien who walks in alone on Tubbs, O'Brien undresses Tubbs and the Rocks take the lead with 1:18 on the clock, 8-7 Rocks. J. King, a physical force all night takes a face-off deep in the Rocks zone and just 20 seconds after the Rocks had the game seemingly won, King manages too kick the puck free off the draw to his brother who slips a puck past Rogers outstretched leg and the game is sent to overtime, 8-8. Rocks out shoot the Panthers 13-7 in the 3rd and 36-26 overall.OT Period
The Allgeyer tournament rules is straight forward a 4-man shootout, Coffman sends Andy O'Brien, Jimmy Wall, Chris Ridgway and Anthony Rogers. Panthers send out Star forward Young, Stanford, Glenn and K. King. First up O'Brien who comes in and beats Tubbs, glove side, 1-0. Young tries to deke Rogers, but Rogers poke checks to shutout the Panthers first attempt. Jimmy Wall skates in and beats Tubbs top shelf glove side again, 2-0 Rocks. Stanford drills a low shot blocker side and scores 2-1 Rocks. Ridgway skates in and an astounding spin-a-rama move has an empty net but loses the handle remains 2-1 Rocks. Glenn is robbed by Rogers with an amazing glove save, 2-1 Rocks. Anthony Rogers uses his patented deke but rings the puck off the post, 2-1 Rocks. The final shooter K. King must score but his deke is stuffed by Alex Rogers and the Rocks clear the bench and head to Sundays final.
